IWSG (Sept)

The first Wednesday of the month means it's  Insecure Writer's Support Day.

Thanks as ever to our host Alex J. Cavanaugh

Co-Hosts this month:

I am working on a first draft at the moment and I am reasonably happy with how it is going. I'm at the midway point which can cause a few problems, last week procrastination kicked in! You know the feeling, the sudden urge to sort your sock drawer or bake a cake! Not helpful as I wanted to write as much as possible before I started back at the day job in school last Monday. Frustrating, but I am sure I will work through.

This month's question: Have you ever surprised yourself with your writing?

I am frequently surprised by my writing! The slew of sub-conscious thoughts and ideas that somehow find their way into a coherent story and those characters that decides to 'do' something I wasn't expecting . . . it's a roller coaster ride of emotions and surprises!

  1. Procrastination is a terrible thing, and it always hits right when you don't want it to! Good luck finishing your draft :)

  4. I recently sorted my sock drawer so I can't use that excuse...

  5. Those sock drawers do become important during the writing process. I guess they serve more than a storage purpose. Here's to that first draft being done.

  6. I don't have a sock drawer, so no excuse there. Keep on a plugging along.

  9. Our writing should always surprise us, should it? :)

  10. I'm always amazed by the number of tedious jobs that suddenly seem so important to complete when I sit down to write. Queen of procrastination here; and I so love it when I sit my butt in the chair and the words flow.

  11. Oh how I wish my procrastination meant cake baking - we'd have so many cakes! Do you find, though, that you're more productive the less time you have? Now you're back at work, squeezing in the writing, my bet is you'll get right down to it. Good luck :-)

  12. Yes, writing is like a roller coaster with a box of chocolates and a hippo for a seat companion ... just joking about the hippo. Unless, the hippo represents procrastination. :)

  13. Hi Suzanne - yes I can easily find something else to do - other than what I should be doing. Well done on starting off your new story - that's great ... it will follow along. Not writing stories - yet I'm surprised sometimes at the posts I write - but that's as we develop as writers, even if not authors ... cheers and enjoy the Autumn and what it offers writing-wise ... 14. I know how you feel, Suzanne, but you'll get back into the swing of things. We all have times when it seems a little unnerving to write. But you will overcome it. :)
Just think of how excited you'll be when it's done.

  15. Hi human, Suzanne,

Speaking of pawcrastination, oops...procrastination, I was thinking about leaving a comment tomorrow, or the next day or...Of course you'll work through it, my nice human friend.

I sometimes get surprised by my human dad's writing. The other day he came very close to writing an intelligible sentence.

    Pawsitive wishes,

  16. Best of luck with that first draft! How exciting that you're at the midway point already. And LOL, I know what it's like for procrastination to sneak up like that. If only it were easier to fend off distractions, LOL!

  19. It's so satisfying to start a book, isn't it. And then that saggy middle where procrastination kicks in. I know that part so well. Good luck with this draft, and hope you finish it soon.
