Salted with Fire Blog Tour

Today I am pleased to welcome Nancy LaRonda Johnson to my blog as part of her tour for her new book

Salted With Fire

Nancy LaRonda Johnson is here to tell us a bit more about her new release...

Black magic, murder, insanity… humor, honor and devotion. Salted With Fire is a journey of flash fiction and poetry that shows my writing transformation from worldly to wanting to please God.

Flash fiction is my passion; poetry is my release. I love creating a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end, with twists, drama, compassion and horror, all under 1000 words. Salted With Fire isn’t just a book of stories and poetry, it is my journey as a writer, from writing only for the mere joy of it regardless of the message, to writing stories that highlight God’s will for people, even if the stories are not religious in nature.

Inside are fifteen flash fiction pieces and twelve poems with full-color pictures, and short Biblical discussions after each story.

Bio

Nancy LaRonda Johnson has written short stories, poetry and personal journals most of her life, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Juris Doctorate. A probation officer by day, she strives during her off-hours to write interesting characters who make it through trying times. Her first book, the literary Christian speculative novel Anticipation of the Penitent, about a serial killer and his mother, reached the finals in the Indie Publishing Contest sponsored by the San Francisco Writer’s Conference 2012. Salted With Fire is her second publication. She is working on several projects, including a sequel to Anticipation of the Penitent. Visit her website at www.nancylarondajohnson.com.

Friday already?

Phew another hectic week! Finally finished work for the school holidays and looking forward to catching up with things at home, taking a few trips, hopefully some writing and generally relaxing from the stresses of the last few months.

Also this week I am celebrating catching up with a friend I have known since I was 11 years old. She is coming to stay for a long weekend later today with her daughter. Looking forward to spending time with her. Hoping the forecast thunderstorms stay away so we can get out for some fresh air on the beaches.

Just a reminder for anyone who doesn't know to check out Write Club , brainchild of DL Hammons. You can win a hefty Amazon gift card just by voting! It's also a great way to take a look at other's writing samples and learn from them.

Happy weekend everyone!

And, as it's Friday, it's time to celebrate the past week's achievements. This week I am celebrating my acting debut! Now, before Angelina Jolie starts shaking in her heels, I have to admit the part I played was the back end of a cow in the school play! I hope it wasn't typecasting! It was fun though.

The strawberries are still fruiting and the sun is still shining so, although I haven't completed much actual writing this week, I am feeling good.

Happy weekend everyone!

Celebrate the small things!

Thanks to Viklit @ Scribblings of an Aspiring Author for hosting our weekly celebrations!

Over the last week I have finished another round of edits on my current manuscript. I hesitate to say final edits because I'm sure there will be more work to do at some point! But for now I'm feeling good about it.

The sun is still here and we have had lots of strawberries off our plants in the garden. The most we have ever had I think.

For the second week running I have managed to fit in a yoga session and a trip to the swimming pool. I'm sure my body is grateful!

And finally, just because she is so cute and can literally sleep anywhere!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Celebrate the small things!

I love the chance to dress up in a long dress and sparkly shoes! So this week I am celebrating going to a ball tomorrow night! We go to this particular summer event every year with a group of friends and I am looking forward to it. To top it all off the sun has made a reappearance and is set to last for a week or so, will be hoping to fire up the BBQ with the family on Sunday.

I hope whatever you are doing you have a lovely weekend.

TIME FOR IWSG

Awesome co-hosts this month

Nancy Thompson – http://nancysthompson.blogspot.com/
Mark Koopmans – http://mark dkoopmans.blogspot.com/
Heather Gardner - http://hmgardner.blogspot.com/

For this month's post I'm going to talk about TIME.  How we manage it, how we find it and how we often lose it! I seem to spend hours wanting to sit down and write.  When I'm at work for example I am often frustrated not to be home working on my latest piece,  yet I know it simply isn't possible. Then when I have a few precious hours set by to write my inspiration may have gone elsewhere! It seems a cruel twist of fate. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I know it's that age old problem of time management, and I have tried to re-organise things to give myself more opportunities, but it rarely happens as planned.I have sneaked in the odd half hour before work sometimes but this is mainly to write a blog post or answer emails. It doesn't seem long enough for me to get into the 'zone.'  In the evenings I might grab an hour or so but if everyone is home and the house is noisy I don't find this very conducive either!

Anyone know where I can buy Hermione's Time Turner?

BIRTHSTONE UNICORNS - Ruby

The start of another new month and time for another birthstone. July's traditional birthstone is the gorgeous ruby. I thought I would share with you some of the folklore and interesting facts surrounding this gem.

  • According to lore, if you dream of rubies it signifies that you will soon experience success in love and money.
  • It is thought that rubies grow darker in colour when the wearer is in mortal danger. It is said that Catherine of Aragon, first wife of King Henry VIII, predicted her downfall in seeing the darkening of her ruby.
  • If a ruby is placed under a building's foundations it is thought to strengthen the structure.
  • In the Bible the ruby is the most commonly mentioned precious stone.
  • The most valuable colour of a ruby is known as 'pigeon blood.' The darker the colour the more valuable.
  • In the Orient, rubies were once believed to contain the spark of life.
  • In the Middle Ages, rubies were thought to bring good health as well as guard against wicked thoughts, amorous desires and disputes.
  • Rubies were said to cure bleeding.

The verse from the traditional Gregorian Poem reads;

The gleaming Ruby should adorn,
All those who in July are born,
For thus they'll be exempt and free,
From lover's doubts and anxiety.

If you are celebrating a birthday this month, happy birthday to you.  Or possibly a 40th Wedding Anniversary?

I have added a short excerpt from, Ruby the July Birthstone Unicorn story. Click the appropriate page tab above if you are interested in reading.
